The PELICAN is an all aluminum combination fishing vessel built at Matsumoto Shipyards, North Vancouver, British Columbia in 1966. The hull and decks are of 3/16" plate with 1 1/4 x 4" angle frames at 34" centers and 1/4 x 2 1/2" flat bar longitudinal stiffners at 10" centers. The vessel has a slight V bottom, a full keel, a hard chine, and a rounded stern. The vessel has five watertight transverse bulkheads. A watertight hatch is installed on the lazarette.
ARRANGEMENT:
The vessel has the deckhouse forward, the fish hold amidship, and the well deck work station aft. A 60" diameter x 42" wide aluminum net reel with a Gearmatic hydraulic drive is located forward in the well deck. A large radius aluminum net fairlead is mounted on the transom. The engine room is located below the cabin deck. The fish hold, measuring about 8 1/2' long, 10' wide, by 4' deep, is closed with a three-piece plywood hatch cover. Integral fuel tanks are located between the hold and lazarette. The lazarette, containing the steering quadrant, is next aft and void space is in the stern.
The deckhouse is entered off the main deck at port side and down two steps. The main helm station is forward on the port side. Wagner hydraulic steering and Morse controls are located at the main console and at the work station aft. The main helm station has the electronics, electric controls, and engine instruments convenient to the helmsman.
The cabin has a galley cabinet with a single stainless steel sink and a Dickinson "Neptune" oil stove on the starboard side. A 50 gallon fresh water tank is located behind the cabinet. A 10 gallon stove oil tank is located on the aft cabin bulkhead. The trunk cabin is a V-berth.
PROPULSION:
The vessel is powered by a Chevrolet "Crusader 454" gasoline engine rated at 350 horsepower. The engine is fresh water cooled through a keel cooler. The exhaust is water cooled and directed overhead through a dry exhaust system. An approved backfire flame arrestor and high temperature and low oil pressure alarms are installed. Two electric bilge blowers are installed in the engine room.
ELECTRICAL:
The vessel's electrical system mis 12 volt DC supplied by two deep cycle marine batteries. The batteries are maintained by an engine mounted alternator and are connected through a SeaTest vapor proof slector switch. The circuits are of plastic coated, stranded wire and are protected by fuses.
FUEL:
Fuel is carried in a 225 gallon integral tank located between the hold and lazarette. The tank is filled through a 2" pipe in the starboard gunwale and is vented on deck port side aft of the fish hold through a 1" line. The fuel lines are 3/8" Aeroquip fuel hose with shut-off valves at the tank and filler. A cartridge fuel filter is installed.
PUMPS:
The vessel is outfitted with a 1" Jabsco bilge/washdown pump with an electric clutch driven off the engine. A Vickers 6-gpm hydraulic pump with an electric clutch is also driven off the engine. A Rule 1750-gph electric bilge pump is locted in the engine room.

Notice of Sale

Pursuant to Seward City Code, Section 7.10.750 notice is hereby given that the abandoned vessel Auklet Red is offered for sale. Sealed bids for this vessel must received by 4:00pm November 13, 2009. Bids must be mailed to Seward City Clerk Attn: Impound Vessel Sale PO Box 167 Seward, AK 99664. Bids will be opened at 10:00am Monday, November 16nd 2009 at City Council Chambers.

Bidders are encouraged to inspect this vessel prior to the sale. The Auklet Red may be inspected by interested bidders by appointment only. Contact the Seward Harbormaster’s office at (907) 224-3138 to schedule an appointment. Office Hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm seven days a week.

CONDITIONS OF SALE:

All vessels are offered for sale as is, where is, and no warranties or guarantees of any kind will be made. The City reserves the right to reject any bid based on Seward City Code 7.10.755. Transfer of interest by sale shall be evidenced by a Bill of Sale from the Harbormaster, considered a transfer by operation of law and governed by the applicable provisions of law. Payment in full must be received and the vessel must be removed from City property prior to the Bill of Sale transfer.

The amounts due to the City of Seward include costs generated from interest and penalties on unpaid moorage, towing, appraising, impounding, and storing the vessel. The accepted bid amount must be paid within 24 hours of acceptance of the bid. The Harbor will only accept a certified cashier’s check made payable to the City of Seward.

The entire vessel must be removed from City property within 14 days of the bid opening (on or before November 30, 2009). If the vessel is to be immediately returned to the Seward Small Boat Harbor, a minimum of one year’s moorage must be prepaid.

The City may purchase the vessel at the sale for an offset bid in the amount of fees and charges due to the City as stated in the Minimum Bid below.
