This is a position for an individual interested in full time, long term career employment in the Maritime Industry. Must relocate to Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Housing and car will be provided. Must be a people person with customer service, organization and office skills. Maritime background is a plus. College education will also be considered. We will train.
The primary duty of the agent is directly related to the vessel management policies of Alaska Maritime Agencies. Each agent works closely with other agents as a team. The ability to take initiative and to keep other team members apprised of actions taken is essential. Organization and ability to continually re-order priorities as needs change are a must. Hours worked per week depend on the vessel activity.
The agent position includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
Organize and generate government documentation and communicate with same for inspections (U.S.Customs/Immigration/Coast Guard) of the vessel, crew or passengers.
Keep vessel owners/operators apprised of local activity. Provide communication link to and from the vessel, including mail, faxes and other written communications in a timely, dependable and confidential manner. Coordinate ships matters with other offices.
Arrange for docking, pilots, linehandlers and other services for the vessels port call as needed.
Assist in emergency situations with regard to vessel crew or passengers.
Liaise with principal on meeting of ships needs, including coordination with cargo receiver/supplier, passenger ground handling vendors, procurement of stores, delivery of spares, fresh water, and refuse disposal, as needed.
Coordinate vessel port call and cargo operations with local terminals.
Capable of boarding and moving about vessels without physical restriction
Applicants should have some hands-on computer knowledge/experience due to the extensive use of computers in our operations as well as the ability to monitor and approve vessel expenses.
Position requires a quick learner, capable of adapting to different environments. Applicants should also be well organized and capable of keeping track of multiple tasks.
Valid Alaska Drivers License with clean driving record required. Employment subject to background check.
