15 Students Maximum - 6 minimum
Materials Fee/Student: $50
Each student will receive as part of their materials fee a 2� sloyd knife, a hook knife and some simple sharpening supplies. Green willow, alder, aspen and birch in a wide variety of shapes and sizes will be supplied.

Qualifications: Anyone with a small amount of hand strength, a little practice, a little time and two simple tools can make useful and beautiful spoons, ladles, cups and more from greenwood you can find in a forest near you.

Minimum age is 16. Ages 12 to 16 may participate if accompanied by adult guardian.

Class Schedule:

Tools and sharpening � each student will make their own hone and strop and then sharpen their new tools.

Saturday:
Simple Spoon Demonstration � Wood selection, process and technique. Each student will make a very simple spoon from willow, alder or aspen to be completed by 9am Saturday. From this exercise the student will begin to learn the following:

� Bracing for control and safety
� Life in the �Valley of Death�
� One-handed bandaging
Wrap up with Questions and Answers
Simple spoon critique and more Q and A
Larger or more complex spoon
� Demonstration
� Choose and prepare your material
� Carve �Till Ya Can�t�
� Expand on what was learned on Friday and begin to explore shape, style, proportion, weight, unique characteristics, function and possibly decoration
� Wrap up discussion and critique
Sunday: Ladles, cups, tray or more spoons

� Demonstration
� These projects are going to ramp up the degree of difficulty and push the limits of your tools, strength and control. You will build on what you have already learned, work through your frustrations and find great satisfaction. Everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace and not move on until it is comfortable.

After this class, I hope you will find yourself carving spoons in your back yard or on a camping trip. Maybe thawing out green sticks and carving spoons around your kitchen table in mid-winter.

ASA Basic to Bareboat Sailing Class (Tahiti)

If you've ever sat on a tropical beach watching sailboats go by and wished that you were on that boat, but have no prior sailing experience or not enough to charter a boat this class is for you. The Tahiti Basic to Bareboat ASA Class is a 7 day live aboard class, where you will learn the basics of sailing, building your skills and confidence enough that you will be certified to bareboat charter internationally. Beyond learning to sail there will be plenty of time to snorkel, swim, soak up the sun and enjoy the local culture and flair. Most meals will be provided for you, but we will want to stop at a few local restaurants where you will need to pay your own tab. This class was developed several years ago as the solution to Alaskans who wanted to take a sailing class, but did not having enough free time in the Summer to be able to do so. Since many Alaskans take a trip to the beach during the Winter months this class has proved to tie in nicely with a trip most are likely to already want to take, but the great part about it is that you get to do it on a sailboat while learning to sail. New skills and passions make for great souvenirs

Cost per person is $2,400.00 plus airfare (based on double occupancy). Cost includes a full week aboard a Beneteau 44 out of the Moorings in Raiatea, Tahiti, most meals and ASA instruction through Bareboat Chartering.

Computer Programming Class - Looking for interest (Anc/Mat-Su)

I'm considering offering an introductory computer programming class for beginners/hobbyists. This class will not be certified nor accredited. The class would focus on the Microsoft .NET framework and cover either VB.NET or C#, whichever has the most interest.

So what I am looking for here is an indication of interest. What does the interested community feel is an appropriate fee for this kind of class? Do you prefer the class be held in Anchorage or in Palmer?

I'm envisioning meeting once per week for 1 to 1.5 hours. The course will probably run 8 to 10 weeks.
We'll cover Visual Studio, programming basics, the chosen language (VB or C#), and practical applications. By the end of the course you will 1. have (and know where to find) free tools to write software, 2. have an understanding of a programming language, and 3. be able to use the tools and language to solve real-world issues.
The course should be appropriate for beginners, hobbyists, and home business owners. This class will not be designed to set you on a path to writing professional grade software.

I am a Sr. Programmer by day - having been in the software industry for about 15 years.

I am offering a fun filled beading class for beginners, we will explore basic stringing and basic earring techniques. Most beading class participants will leave class with at least a necklace, bracelet or earrings (*the "kit" contains supplies to make an entire set [necklace, bracelet, earrings], but some students only have time to complete one or two items, and the "kit" is still yours to take home with you in order to complete whatever you haven't finished in class at your own leisure) some will leave class with an entire necklace set, which consists of matching necklace, bracelet, and a pair of earrings to show off to family and friends, either way it will be fun, you will all have plenty of one on one time as my classes are never over five students total at one given time. I have a class offered every day of the week except for Sundays, (09/04/09-09/11/09), from 12noon-4pm (entirely up to each student if they feel they need to stay the entire class)

Cannot book over 5 students per class.

Class Price: $25 (which includes up to 4 hours of instruction and the "kit" I only use high end beads, this class uses authentic fresh water pearls, & hematite)

This group is being established for denominational and non-denominational Christians to come together and discuss the differences in our beliefs.

A+ Essentials covers skills needed by computer support professionals such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking. Starting Feb. 16 to Mar. 9, every Monday from 4-5:30
