Here's a little about me:
-I am 16, almost 17.

Overnight rates are the same. Time begins when you leave, and ends when you return home.

*I know how to bottle feed an infant, and change diapers.
*I have been trained in CPR, although I'm not sure my card is current.
*I've assisted in potty training, so I know how that goes.
*I discipline according to your requests.
*Schedules are no problem, I understand that toddler who gets grumpy with out a nap.
*I do small household chores (i.e: vacuuming, dishes, laundry, etc.)
*I really love kids.

Whatever it is I am doing if it evolves children I am a happy person.

Let me tell you a little about each of these things I have been apart of.

Vacation Bible Schools were a big part of my life growing up, so as soon as I was able to be a teacher-group leader I was signed up for it. With my church River Ridge Presbyterian I was able to start volunteering at 12 years of age. I helped with the small groups and the sports in the program every summer for two weeks. I did this for 5 years.

My trip to the Dominican Republic was one of the most impacting summers and volunteering of my life. I was fortunate enough to go with a team of 35 people to help build La Vega Christian School. While spending two weeks eating beans and rice, working in over 100 degree temps carrying cinderblocks, cement bags and sitting on a metal roof we also ran a VBS where I got to practice some Spanish and help teach the children about the Lord. We also ran a health clinic where I was able to help give medications and take blood pressures and different things to help get information before the patients could see the doctor. I learned more on this trip then I could have ever imagined.

As an activities coordinator at Gull Wing Beach Resort, I was in charge of organizing and running the children�s program to help make the stay at Gull Wing more enjoyable for both the adults and children. I planned events throughout the day like swimming classes, beach volley ball, soccer, arts and crafts, and sand castle contests. Although this job was a summer job I received great experience working with children.

In my high school, I first started volunteering with the Special Education Program by helping teacher out with field trips. I then became so excited to stop in and see these students I formed special bonds with them and wanted to be apart of the program at our school. I then applied to be a student assistant instead of taking the normal elective classes. Then in my senior year I worked four out of six of my classes in the Special Ed room. I helped run the class, helping the specific children with their special needs. These students changed the way I look at the world today, and be fortunate of what I have, and thank God everyday for my life, and pray for those less fortunate then I am.

To tell you a little about me personally, like I said I am twenty two years old and live with my husband. He is in the US Coast Guard and we are stationed in Valdez. We just got married fifteen months ago and I�m so excited to be living in Alaska. I am originally from New Port Richey, Florida and moved to Fort Myers Beach, Florida about five years ago, and now after getting married I moved to Valdez, Alaska. So Alaska is a huge change for me! I feel as though I am called to work with children in any way I can and help further impact there lives for a better future. I am a very outgoing , fun person to be around and very athletic (played soccer for 13 years, basketball for 5, softball for 8, volley ball for 4) as well. I am hoping to find a full time position in the school system. I am excited to be able to complete my degree and become an Elementary teacher while taking care of children which is my passion. Just my two cents worth. The lady that posted that she showed up early and her baby was in a soiled diaper, she is right. There is no guarantee just because someone is licensed. Parents should be showing up at different times and unannounced in the beginning of an arrangement. I was licensed, and in my contract that I was required to have by the municipality, we have to put that the licensing specialist comes out 4 times a year to do check-ups. My specialist only came out 2 times a year, they don't tell you when they are coming out, but you can pretty much figure it out.
There are some good providers out there that are licensed and there are some good providers that are not.

It really doesn't matter if your child care provider is Licensed or Unlicensed. As a parent it's your job to take care of your child. You should do the research, and plan drop in visits, and make sure that your child is getting good care. No one is perfect. Even the BEST most EXPENSIVE childcare in town may not be what's best for your child. Each child is different. Whether personality, or learning, or play, or whatever, the goal as a working parent is to find the provider who is willing and able to adjust their tone, their teaching skills, their caring abilities to suit each child.

As a mother of a extremely smart but extremely sensitive 21/2 year old it's very difficult. My daughter has been at the same daycare sense she was 3 months old. When there was a problem, I told them about it. I've had to complain about another child and another teacher, and have her moved into another class, all within the last few months. But the way I look at it, with the amount I'm paying they should be doing everything possible to make my child feel comfortable and welcome in their facility.

Her recent difficulty is one of the reasons I've decided to go into child care myself. And I've debated between Licensed and Unlicensed weighing the pros and cons. And I had decided recently to become licensed. Not because I think I'm not going to be good at it. Or that I'll need someone watching over my shoulder. I'm a good Mom, and there has been a time at our current daycare that I hung out for an hour every morning and ended up playing with most of the kids (my girl was going through a separation thing). I have no doubt that I will be good at this life. But I also know that there are a lot of people who are restricted in their care selections because they need the benefit of State Daycare Assistance. I have a couple friends that are on it. (Wish I could get on it) So I'll be continuing my education over the next couple years, and working towards getting my license. Until then, I will offer the same great care. When it comes to our children there's no guarantee. The goal should be to find them an environment that they enjoy, and can thrive and grow, and just be themselves.

For just over a year I took my baby to a licensed provider. This lady has an perfect record. Been in business for a very long time. No complaints, her home was always clean, the kids clean, they seemed happy. She does alot with her association. From her record you are thinking she should be on "A Place Of Thier Own".
Then one day I showed up at her house about an hour early to pick up my baby. As soon as I got out of the car I could hear the provider screaming at a kid. I saw her thru her window, she was down in a little boys face just screaming at him. I walked thru the door and could hear my baby just over a year old screaming from another room, I went right into the bedroom to get my baby. She stank to high heaven. I grabbed her and her stuff and took her outside to change her. The poop was dried to her bottom and she was all red and torn up. She had been crying for awhile, her face was red and puffy. The provider came out and was making excuses and saying how sorry she was. I ignored her ran straight home and called her licenser. Nothing ever came of it. There is no record of my complaint. This lady and I had been very friendly over the year my baby was there. She talked about her licenser and how there is never a write up even when complaints are made. Licensers tell providers to call and let them know when they are having problems with a client who does not want to pay ectra. So they know to ignore the complaint calls!

It took me a little while and several visits to very strange peoples homes. But I found a great lady, unlicensed, but awesome. She agreed to take my baby on the next Monday and after almost 2 years we have never had a problem. Our families are close and my baby loves her so much.

No offense, but that license is no gaurantee of your childs safety.

The kids were on the roof of her garage last month. She is never home, her husband sleeps during the day. Daughter and her boyfriend take care of the kids that never come outside. Van is in the garage. Licensing comes to visit. They do not answer the door. They check the muni site and see that licensers tried to come over and know to clean up thier act until it happens. Then they are back to the neglect. Unlicensed home down the street, the children are outside everyday, go home every evening with a project or a painting in hand. The provider gardens with the children all summer long, takes them for walks, there is always music and laughter. Games played, the sprinkler on, building a snowman in the lawn last week. Personally I would go with my unlicensed neighbor over the muni regulated one anyday. So take your license and stuff it. All it is is a piece of paper that enables you to collect goverment money. IE DCAP and Food Program. I prefer to regulate my childs welfare on my own. No goverment agency required.

PLEASE!!!!
I was licensed at one time and recently chose not to renew my license with the Municipality. I am so happy that I made that choice. I was so bogged down with paperwork and going to classes that had nothing to do with the children I care for.
As for the guidelines that the Municipality has, most parents, already have these in place. My home is clean, free of hazards, and best of all if we need to deviate from our "schedule" we can. My husband, children and I don't drink, do drugs, or smoke. We have a loving environment here.
When I was licensed with the municipality I was so stressed about getting my training hours in. That took money out of my pocket and took me away from my family in the evenings. I do keep up on my CPR and First Aid training, to me, that is the most important training.
Parents have great intuition and they know if a place is good for their child or not.
So licensed or not a parent knows what is best for them.
