It seems to me that McCain/Palin are being dangled in the wind by the Republican right wing, who have already given up on this election. They are posturing themselves for 2012, and it's not Palin they have in mind. Think about it: they are making her shout blatant lies -- I mean, despicable and easy to disprove lies -- about the man who will be president. No matter what happens in his presidency, I don't think he's going to fall flat on his face. So, the lingering image will be of Palin will be a shrill nut-job spewing hateful lies. Note that McCain himself has begun distancing himself from the panicky hate she's puking on America.

No, they're not trying for this year anymore. Rather, they're super-solidifying the far right wing into the blind and sharp-teethed attack-sheep flock that got Bush elected through trickery and bribes. They're essentially giving up the next four years in order to create a crucible that will temper their ugliness into a force to be reckoned with.

Don't believe me? Watch some of the videos being circulated of the crowds entering McCain or Palin rallys. I defy you to state that the unbelievable ugliness and stupid lies most of those people are throwing out there would be accepted by 75% of American -- even 80, 90%. They state "Obama is a muslim" with a straight face; they state he's a terrorist. It hurts me to see Americans that stupid, but there they are on film, one after another entering McCain/Palin events to shout, "Kill him." They are the far, far right fringe, and that's all that's left to the Republicans. I know it's edited for effect, but still, their hate and ignorance is indisputably there and copious.

I'm an independent. I used to think I'd be O.K. with either candidate as president. Now, however, the top Republicans have driven me far away, one can only imagine intentionally, because although they depend upon the ignorance of their flock, they themselves are really very smart. I like and respect McCain himself, but can no longer believe that he is even in control of his own campaign. It's sad to see. I've never been to Alaska, I'm from the center of the U.S.A., near Kansas City, but I've always been interested in visiting your state! I'd like to see the wilderness and I'm, also, very interested in the Alaska RailRoad and to see the other things I've heard about! I have been reading the postings in here ever since McCain itroduced Palin as his running mate and I've seen people wanting to apologize to the lower 48 because of Sarah Palin. I visited Chicago and loved it, the windy city, As child growing up here in Alaska's Banana Belt, we were amazed that Chicago was colder.
WE ARE CONCERNED, many native leaders have been working to preserve the environment along with the rest of us. As with the rest of the U.S . it has not been a time when the environment was cherished.

Sara has been a surprise to us also. She came on the scene with a burst of positive energy, most of us knew nothing about her but we did not trust Merkowski (former Governor). I think many of us feel we made the wrong choice. Remember that was less than 2 years ago.

There are several groups working to keep Alaska free of most of the environmental problems the rest of the country lives with. Alaska Center for the Environment is one. I think you can google it. Also the Bioneers are active as are many of the local native groups. The Chickaloon Tribe has shown real leadership. Here in the valley we have Friends of Mat-Su, who are involved in many issues including regulating the power generation plans.
I think the tide is turning.
Please do come and visit. You will not be disappointed. Post again if you need suggestions for your planning of your alaskan trip. I will give you my list of my favorite hideaways.
I think Sara would make a great weather girl in the other red state.

Whether or not you support your governor in her bid for vice president on the Republican ticket, I'm sorry your state has come under such an intense negative scrutiny. I have never visited Alaska, but had always wanted to see its natural beauty. I have heard marvelous stories about Bald Eagles as plentiful as pigeons under the "el" platforms. I've heard about moose wandering through towns. It always intrigued me.
I wonder now if Alaskans embrace their states natural beauty and desire to preserve it? I wonder if all Alaskans believe the way Sarah Palin does, that in a bid for oil and commerce, nothing adverse to the environment is off limits?
The bottom line is I no longer feel so strongly about visiting Alaska - I'm afraid it isn't what I had heard, had dreamed it to be like. And in spite of my concern for what it is really like there, I am sorry that you've come under such negative scrutiny. I disagree with some of what you say. Health care has been studied internationally and all the developed nations(except the U.S.) have national health care. We have the highest cost of prescription drugs, hospital and doctor visits, covered by insurance or not. I am not convinced that the treatment is less when covered by a national coverage. As it is now if you are at the age for medicare there are nearly no doctors willing to take you as a patient and many more will drop you once you reach that age.
One of the reasons for the high costs of drugs is that we have allowed national advertising by the drug companies. Only one other nation (New Zealand) does. We have drug companies inventing diseases to sell their drugs, they ghost write the articles in the journals of medicine and pay off a doctor to sign them.

As for the "God" issue. Remember we have separation of church and state. That means we do not have a national religion. "Under God" was added to the pledge in 1954 during the McCarthy witch hunting of so called "reds". Religion is not to be taught in public schools for the reason we have the right (given to us by our constitution) to choose our own beliefs.
I define un-american as activities in violation of our constitution.
I am appalled that ministers are instructing our people how to vote. That is un-American under the constitution. I am shocked that President Bush has an office for religious acivities in the white house. That is un-American.
I consider the religious church groups lobbying congress to wage war with Israel as un-american.

This is the era of pre emptive war of choice. There is no bigger "sin" than a war that is not a last resort. But to attack a country that posed no threat, nor did us any direct harm, is the ultimate crime against mankind. This sort of attack IS terrorism, parsed as democracy and freedom and yes, even peace.

The architects and supporters of this war have more than just blurred the lines for the definition of justifiable self defense. They have not merely lowered the bar of justifiable warfare, they have removed the bar entirely.

Besides the war on Iraq, this administration has turned away from its obligations to effectively monitor our foods, drugs, the environment, social services, energy, etc. Bush put people into places of influence who diminished their departments -the EPA for example, into anything but an agency that tries to protect the environment.

History will look back at this current administration as one that completely dropped the ball and guardianship of the nation. Our country will be hurting for decades because of this stubborn and simple-minded man who wished to be king. He deserves prison, say in Guantanamo Bay, with more than just a small dose of water-boarding. Shame!

I personally don't totally get what the definition IS for the FAR RIGHT. I'm as conservative as they come. I'm a whiz at parties! I love traditional America..where you work hard, pay your dues, study hard, and can be whatever you want based on your hard work and tenacity. I don't want a DAMN THING from government except to be protected from crimes, and to have a decent safe place to live. I think people should buy their own health insurance, and lead safe healthy lives. I don't believe in suing doctors unless it's for a blatently horrible reason. Frivelous lawsuits make me want to puke, and THEY are the reason health care is so expensive. You don't hear either candidate mention that though...do you? They could change those laws tomorrow..and stop the ambulance chasers in their tracks...but they don't. My sister is an MD. I know what I'm talking about. Doctors pay hundreds of thousands a year in malpractice insurance. So it's simply not worth it for many of them to even practice....so they move on to other things...specialties...and they are downright afraid to do what they think is right...they have to live under a microscope where lawyers are just waiting for any imperfection. Some patiens come in WANTING you to screw up, so they can get some free money. Makes me sick. I cannot imagine working a job where the customer wants to destroy you if you mess up. I used to be a waiter..that was bad enough...but if I spilled the soup on you....you'd not be able to take my house. I'll give you half of everything I owe though.

I value GOD, even though I am an athiest. I think GOD has a great effect on a great many people...so I see no reason to get rid of it. It works for a LOT of people. It makes them happy, and gives them solace and inspiration. Why would anyone have a problem with that??

Who do the moderate liberals hate? It's not the ACLU. Who DO the moderate Democrats hate? Sarah Palin. And then you have the evangelicals....what's their crime? They preech the gospel and live the life of fearing God?...walking the walk, talking the talk... Um..who cares? Does that harm anyone? I doubt it. Yes..they are pro life. We could debate if that harms anyone....but nobody ever wins that arguement...so I won't go there. No benefit.

So yeah...the far left openly endorses Obama, yet the Far Right (whoever they are) do not endorse anyone that I've seen. I could be wrong...wouldn't be the first time. It apprears to me that the far Right really doesn't have much of a voice here....if they own/influence a major network, please tell me. They most certainly are not openly endorsing or supporting McCain. He is barely a conservative by my definition...so I imagine they really don't care for him much. The whole thing is HIGHLY suspicious. First of all, her homely daughter Brisbane or Birchwood or whatever is MIA from school for months from "mono" and then concurrently, Sarah claims that she is 7.5 months pregnant much to the surprise of EVERYONE around her. I saw a photo of her during an earlier pregnancy and she looked very pregnant.

Then she does everything a woman with a high risk pregnancy shouldn't do. She flies across the country. While in Texas, her water breaks and contractions start. What would a NORMAL person do with a high risk pregnancy at that point? They'd go to the nearest hospital IF THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE.

If this really is her baby, she risked it's life and safety through repeated bad judgments for nearly 24 hours or longer. The prematurely born high-risk pregnancy could have ended in disastrous results but The Good Jesus appeared to be with her through each and every ignorant decision along the way. SUPPOSEDLY she was dripping amniotic fluid through her "very important" speech, spent hours of waiting and contractions, cab rides, plane transfers and each and every tedious security check...Amazing. Nearly 24 hours after her first contractions, she delivers a child. I guess it shouldn't matter that the child could have possibly been squirted into an aisle DOA on a first class plane trip to Seattle or Anchorage. Then after arriving in Anchorage, she goes another 45 minutes to a tiny clinic which could not possibly be prepared for a complicated birth. We should praise and worship Sarah's brawny vulvar muscles without question. I have another idea. TRIG IS BRITTLE'S BABY.

Here's my scenario where Brillo is actually the mother of Trig AND the upcoming child:

Picture this: Sarah comes home after a rough day in February and slips in amniotic fluid in the foyer. "Somebody needs to get over here and clean up this dog piss," she yells. Yes, the way the rest of the world sees us is very important. We have had an inflated ego for too long. We talk of a global economy but we only see it through our own economic interests. We talk of peace and peace keeping but we only see our involvement in that effort if there is something in it for us.
We here in Alaska are facing another crisis. We have been over-run with a group of christians who believes that the end of the world is near. They do not plan a future for the next 7 generations. They see only the short term, and from that we get the bull dog approach to politics, the environment and in doing so play right into the hands of the big money oil and ore extracting companies who get the P.R. work done for them without the expense.
Alaska has a huge military block of voters, many of whom do not live in Alaska but retain their residency (and receive the permanent fund check each year) and vote absentee. Often times they are not aware of the local issues, and their interests are swayed (by the dividend check) to call for for more natural resource development without environmental restrictions.
Japan many years ago, took heed of President Carter warning of over dependency on oil and imports, wasteful consumer spending and dwindling US made products. Japan reduced their dependency on oil, built infrastructure and created a wonderful example of alternate transportation.
We have not been asked to sacrifice for this war, we have not been told to conserve. We have been told not to believe science, to think that global warming is not man caused.
Here in Alaska folks forget what smog can do, obscuring our vistas, harming our lungs, etc. Our mines are distant, so we ignore the destruction as we allow out of state and often out of country companies to do as they please.
We do need to wake up.

I did not bad mouth you but I am just saying, if you live out in the wilderness, you should not complain about the wolves who's habitat you have intruded in.
I don't life in a big city. We have bear and mountain lions as our neighbors but we don't kill them, only live as their neighbors. Even you must have a car and a freezer at home or not?

That's the great thing about America, we have the choice to live where we like. I would never bad mouth you for living in an over populated city, with the high crime, pollution and having to allow someone else do your killing for you so you can eat, whether it is for a hamburger or a steak or a salad, plants are alive, this is something is chose to do myself. So you just enjoy all your "benefits" of the city and I will enjoy the hardships of bush living.
