If you're not familiar with the buddy pass system, it goes like this: you buy one ticket at full price and then you get a second on the same flight for 50$. Only valid on AA/Horizon flights. So essentially, it's buy one get one free. The flight can be anytime during the next year, but the ticket must be purchased by tomorrow. I need to use some vacation time before the end of the year, so I plan to travel Dec18-Jan3 to some place sunny.

This is where you come in. I can't find any friends who have free time at the end of December and haven't already made plans, so the first person to write me back with an awesome idea regarding where to go and what to do gets to go with me! I'm looking for someone to split the cost 50-50, so we each get a half price ticket.

I've been thinking Mexico would be fun, because I've never been, but I'm willing to go anywhere if you can convince me it will be a good time (and at least a bit warmer than AK in Dec). Flights to Mexico are currently ~1400$ round trip, so with taxes we would pay 800$ each, plus or minus. Bonus points if you speak Spanish

Things to do in Mexico? snorkel, surf, hike, climb, explore, learn about other cultures, community service ... anything else you can come up with... I'm a 24 y/o male. I like to stay active. I wouldn't want to do the 'normal' tourist thing the whole time, but a couple days on the beach would be nice.

Other places? Hiking/climbing in southern California? Road trip in Arizona/New Mexico? Florida? Leap-frog along the CA coast and visit some friends in SF and LA? Other suggestions?

I know signing up for a vacation with a stranger might seem like a nutty idea, but it's worked great for me before (rideshare, couchsurfing, meeting random people while traveling solo). And I've exhausted my other options :)
