Volunteer/Apprentice
Valley Winery is looking for an apprentice who would like to learn the finer points of Vinification (Wine making), Brewing, and Business. We're a small scale local brew supply shop that runs on a tight budget and is hoping to spread interest in home brewing in the valley. Hours are part time, and flexible, and will be approximately 80% spent on learning the processes, terminology, equipment, and chemistry behind the brewing process. A positive side aspect will be learning the ins and outs of running a small business/ entrepenuership with valuable hands on exprience in time and task management.

This is a low pressure, highly educational experience. Only prerequiset is an enthusiastic interest in the art, and willingness to learn.

An ideal candidate will have experience in management, customer service, sales, and home brewing/ fermenting; but even if you are lacking these prior experiences, you'll have them before we're through.
Naturally this possition comes with certain perks like picking your schedule, at cost brew supplies, and enjoying a fun and no stress hobby close to home.
We didn't vote for it, but your government says you must be 21 to enjoy this experience.
Thank you for your interest.
Call Nick at 727-1157 and leave message.
The Convent is situated in the region of Abruzzo, centre of Italy, about 150 km away from Rome. It has been fully restored by the local institution Mountain Community and furnished following as much as possible the "static free" standards.
The project aims to bring new economic, tourist and especially cultural and spiritual movements in a quite isolated area. It deals with sustainable living, no waste, recycling and clever use of energies.
As every year international volunteer groups will spend some days at the ex Convento San Giorgio: a good chance to meet people from all over the world, to know a bit of Italian culture, getting in touch with permaculture and sustainable living; all this while staying in a Convent of the XVII century. The tasks of the participants change according to the period of the year, the season and the weather, but can be summarized in:
• maintenance of the structure (cleaning the Convent, painting walls, restoring windows,...)
• feeding the animals (chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, donkeys)
• working in the garden
• cleaning paths around the Convent in the wonderful Regional Park of Sirente-Velino.
Project language: English
Location: Goriano Valli (Tione degli Abruzzi - Fontecchio), Province of L'Aquila, Region Abruzzo
Age range: 18 and over

I sincerely apologize if this message is off topic - I am trying to give a broad group of people a chance to participate. Please disregard this message if you are not interested.
I'm a psychology graduate student doing a short internet survey (under the supervision of Dr. C.N. You will be compensated for your time. Also, your participation is anonymous and you will never be asked to provide your name. Please note that you must be over 18 to participate in this survey.

Online Tutors Needed (Anchorage Area)

Description:

TutorChatLive.org is currently recruiting volunteers to tutor online starting when we relaunch the site on January 18, 2010.

The main responsibility is tutoring students who request our free, live help. Our service is open and available to anyone that can access the website. Tutors work from the comfort of their own homes/offices on their computer and chat one-on-one with students in an instant messaging-type program. Tutors have many tools at their disposal such as the ability to link the student with online resources, draw on a virtual whiteboard, and transfer the chat to other available tutors online should they need further assistance.

Tutors can tutor in any subject area for which they have knowledge of, at least at the middle school/high school level. Math/science is of high demand, but not required.

We are very flexible with scheduling but request at minimum that tutors be online for two hours a week and commit to six months of tutoring with our service.

If you are a high school student in need of community service hours, we will gladly provide those.

Application:

Please apply online at our (soon to be redesigned) website at http://www.tutorchatlive.org.

Once we receive and review your application, you will be contacted to set up a phone meeting where we will discuss more about our program and give you the opportunity to ask questions.

Next, telephone orientations will take place late November/early December at which point we will teach tutors the ins and outs of the site and chat program for preparation for our launch on January 18, 2010.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at admin@tutorchatlive.org

We hope to hear from you soon!
I am in the process of trying to together a group of people who either have MS or maybe have a loved one who has MS that would like to get together and brainstorm for great fundraising ideas. I have been in contact with the local Alaska office of the MS Society and will be getting the rubber bracelets to sell, but I am thinking that with the upcoming holiday season there is a lot of arts and crafts type things that can be done and sold also.We are also looking for ideas of places to be able to sell our products, so if you are or know any local businesses owners that would be willing to let us set up a table their that would also be a huge help! Please e-mail me if you are interested. I will give you further information if you are truly interested. It would be great to get a group of people together to participate in a project benefiting a great cause and also be able to network with one another about what it's like dealing with the disease.
Okay, this may sound weird, but I'd like to try being a panhandler, but instead of getting money, I want to give it away.

Thinking of holding a sign on a street corner, with the sign reading WANT A DOLLAR?

And I'll have around $20 one dollar bills to give to people who take me up on my offer

I guess I want to do this as it'd be interesting, and it'd add something interesting to other people's lives

I did something similar once, held a sign that had a big smiley face and said HAVE A GREAT DAY - which resulted in some interesting stuff

I'm looking for volunteers to;

Videotape peoples' reactions to my sign, and my giving them a dollar

And maybe record info about who took me up on my offer, not personal stuff like license plate number, but age and gender, value of vehicle, were they alone or with spouse-aged companion, with kids?

About me; middle aged, single female, 4-yr degree, open to new experiences

My dog, Ruby, is staying with a foster family near Anchorage. We moved to New Hampshire last month, and now have a nice house with a big yard for her. (we weren't able to bring her initially because of housing issues, hence the foster family until we found a place that could accomodate her). I was unprepared for the high price tag for shipping dogs alone on an airline, and was wondering if anyone flying out here (Boston, NY, NJ, NH, Maine, Mass?) in the near future would be willing to bring her with them as an "animal flying with a passenger." She'd be in the cargo hold, of course (she's too big for the cabin), and we'd be very happy to compensate you for your trouble.

Thanks for considering it. We love and miss her very much!

Might be dropping off a load of firewood, or waiting at a trail head with ice cold lemonade and cookies or bringing hot chocolate for those waiting out in the freezing cold
Wondering if there are other Anchorage residents who have ideas of ways they'd like to bring joy to others, but would like the help of others to do it
I don't have a website, no funding, no advertising, just looking for some good folks who'd like to do some good acts

Looking for a Favor? (Anchorage)

Hello Anchorage Locals!

My name is Chris and I organize a group in Columbus, Ohio, that exposes inner-city children and young adults to experiences they might not otherwise have. I visit schools, libraries, etc., allowing them to see videos, listen to speakers, try different foods, listen to music, dance, etc.

Part of my presentations deals with letting them help prepare international dishes, which brings me to the favor.

There is a Greek dish called saganaki, which sets fried cheese on fire, then is extinguished with lemon juice. I think it will be a fun experience for them, and since my budget is tight, I've been searching for a good deal. The only reasonably priced Kasseri Cheese (the type used to make saganaki) that I have been able to find, is sold in--you guessed it--Anchorage, AK! And, on top of that, the store does not ship unless a minimum of $150 is ordered. That's way out of my budget.

My idea is that I could purchase the cheese with my credit card, have a nice volunteer to pick it up and ship it to me. The post office has great rates--of something like $14 for a flat-rate shipping to anywhere in the country. I, of course, would be willing to send you the money for shipping costs!

The location where it would need to be picked up is:

135 Cordova
Anchorage, AK 99501

I would appreciate anyone's help! Thank you in advance!

-Chris

My 17 year old niece will be getting her driver’s license this coming year and I’ve been hoping to find a way to caution her against the dangers of drinking and driving that will make a lasting impression on her.

Since teens relate so much better to other teens than they do to most of the adults in their life, I’m hoping to find teens from across the country that are willing to share their TRUE drunk driving stories with my niece.

I would like for stories to be written in letter format and addressed to “Dear Cassie”. Stories can be as long or as short as you would like and can be about any one: a family member; friend; friend of a friend or about you.

The authors of stories used will receive a small email gift certificate to Barnes & Noble. Thank you for your help!
