“Nina Crumrine (American, 1889-1959) an Alaskan artist and her daughter Josephine Crumrine Liddell (American, 1917-2005) also an Alaskan artist, are known for their pastel portraits of Alaskan sled dogs and landscapes”
“Nina Crumrine was born in Indiana and trained
at the Art Institute of Chicago. She lived in Seattle, Washington where she gave birth to her daughter, Josephine born 1917. In 1923 they moved to Ketchikan, Alaska to live with Nina’s uncle, H.V. McGee. They were avid travelers, visiting every region of Alaska, paying their way selling paintings in the 1930’s - 1940’s.
The Alaska Steamship Co. commissioned Nina and Josephine to paint Alaska scenes and portraits to decorate offices and to use for menu covers on the steamships themselves. Nina is a great historical painter listed in many museums and art collections.”
