Born in 1939 in Corvallis, Oregon, Charlen Jeffery Satrom graduated with a B.A. in art and education from Seattle Pacific College in 1960. She has painted in Alaska since 1976, moving from Anchorage to Wasilla in 2006. Her wide-ranging subject matter includes Alaska subjects from wildlife to landscapes, Native Alaskans, and portraiture. Her portrait paintings include one of Congressman Don Young in Washington, D.C., Anchorage Mayor George Sullivan in Anchorage’s Sullivan Arena, and of Governor William Egan in Anchorage’s Egan Convention Center. She has completed murals in a number of Alaska rural villages, including Selawik, Noorvik, Amber, Deering, and Buckland.
