“The Kiss-SERI” c.1976
This artwork is a hand-signed, original Serigraph (Silkscreen) print
by late acclaimed beloved Alaskan artist
Rie Muñoz (American, 1921-2015)
An extremely rare signed, numbered (#30/120), highly collectible, sold out Limited Edition Serigraph print
On whiteboard and shrink wrapped,
measuring 20” tall x 17” wide
A beautiful and tender example of Alaskan regionalist folk art, this early serigraph showcases Muñoz's characteristic expressionist style. Rendered in a striking single-tone vibrant cobalt blue ink block design, it features heavily stylized figures, bold geometric patterns, and exaggerated silhouettes capturing a maternal embrace between an Arctic mother and her child.
The print beautifully depicts a tender moment of a mother in traditional Arctic attire sharing a kiss with her baby.
Along the bottom margin, the piece features the handwritten title on the left, the edition number/notation in the middle, and the artist's signature on the right
“Rie Muñoz (re moo nyos), a Dutch-American, was born on August 17, 1921 in Van Nuys, California. Rie passed away in 2015. She lived in Alaska since 1951, when she traveled up the Inside Passage by steamship, fell in love with Juneau, and gave herself until the boat left the next day to find a job and a place to live. Since then Juneau had been home to Munoz.”
