Valdez Brewing is a local craft brewery located in picturesque Valdez, Alaska. We operate a production brewery, taproom, and self-distribution network.
We are a small-town brewery supported by our locals in the winter months and have a thriving summer tourism season. We are an outdoor oriented community that has many great offerings for the outdoor enthusiast: world class fishing, hunting, ice and rock climbing, heli and backcountry skiing, miles of cross-country ski and hiking trails, and kayaking.

We are seeking a full-time assistant brewer.

Purpose: To effectively communicate the role and responsibilities of the Assistant Brewer position within Valdez Brewing. This is only an outline, other jobs and responsibilities will be effectively communicated at times. This is a full-time position responsible for executing and/or assisting in day-to day-brewery operations. The best candidate is a person with one year of background experience in brewery operations, however, a strong desire to learn and willingness to work hard could warrant consideration with no prior experience. The assistant brewer will report directly to our Head Brewer and will be actively involved in all facets of the day-to-day operation. Assistant Brewer will also at times act as a liaison to FOH and will take direction from Taproom Manager/GM at that time.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assisting the brewing team with brewing related issues, projects.
• Eventually taking over all aspects of packaging and effectively communicating numbers to GM for taxation purposes.
• Receiving and organizing raw materials.
• Basic brewhouse operation, (milling, mashing, KO, etc.)
• Quality assurance (QA & QC).
• Cellar work including beer transfer, filtration, and carbonation.
• Operating keg washer.
• Tap line maintenance.
• Cleaning, sanitation, and maintenance of brewhouse equipment and cellars.
• Sanitizing of tanks, filter equipment, hoses, etc.
• Proper handling of chemicals required for sanitization and cleaning of equipment.
• Understanding and practicing all internal safety standards.
• Taking ownership over beer dispensing events.
• Leaving the brewery cleaner than you found it. Squeegee, hosed off, gas off, parts cleaned and put away.
• Making soda, hop water.
• Eventually collaborating on future projects, designing beers, brewery collaborations, etc.

Requirements:
• Passion for all things craft beer with a focus on the local community
• Strong work ethic
• Ability to work both independently and within a team, with minimal supervision
• Ability to be on feet all day and able to lift 55+ lbs regularly
• Comfortable working with chemicals and willingness to adhere to safety, environmental and brewhouse standards at all times
• Good troubleshooting skills, and strong mechanical/electrical aptitude
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• 1+ Year previous experience at a brewery as an assistant brewer, brewer, or cellarman is preferred but not required
• Degree or background in biology, chemistry or engineering is a bonus but not required
