I designed this Continuous Flow Through or CFT worm bin to make vermicomposting my produce, food and paper waste, and harvesting the castings easy.
I wanted to avoid the plywood and metal that many use to avoid rot and rust.
This is made of a tall bottomless tote resting on a grid of heavy string trimmer line. The worms remain on the surface where the waste is added and even the cocoons hatch and young worms move up before the castings are harvested at the bottom.
I've used mine for about a year now and it can handle a gallon or two of waste and about an equal amount of paper and cardboard when worm population increases. I can harvest over a gallon of castings per week, and the lower tray has a screen to sift out anything not processed so it can be returned to the top.
Someone with some extra space like in a heated garage or basement could process a neighborhood of waste and share the castings.
More info and videos on Tim's Plants Produce and Worms on Facebook. I'll discount worms if needed.
