New front axle that I bought online for my 2001 Subaru Forester but when the mechanic went to replace it discovered it was the wrong type. According to him @2001 Subaru switched types of axles so some have this type that uses a drift pin that goes through the transmission shaft and the other ones just plug into the transmission.

Check the part # on the box and look at your Subaru to see if the transmission side of the axle looks like the one pictured with a hole in it for the pin.
