Remote cabin on the Talachulitna River. 61.84611° N, 151.36073° W.
The 4.19 acres of land are about 2.75 miles upstream from the confluence of the Skwentna and Talachulitna rivers. Well-maintained 16X20 log cabin on concrete post foundation with a metal roof. This is a turn-key property - ready to use today.
We used this cabin year-round. Good access by snow machine, plane, and boat. We maintain a 600’ air strip a few hundred yards downstream with a trail to the cabin. The strip is good , but the approaches are a bit tight and thus, best for cub-type aircraft. Snowmachine access is easy, as the lodge down at the confluence typically maintains a well groomed trail that cuts direct from the big bend of the Yentna River to the lower end of the Skwentna canyon. The boat trip is longer (about 100 miles) and requires a jet to get up the Tal. However, a larger jet boat can typically get to the cabin, unless water is really low.
Cabin is fully furnished. Glass front wood stove so you can watch the fire. Double bed in sleeping loft. Double futon couch on main floor. With cots, it can sleep 6. All necessary cook gear is on site. Propane stove and lights are hard plumbed and there are a couple 20 lb cylinders on site. There is a natural spring 100 yards away along the Tal that runs year-round and we have never boiled the water before drinking without issue. Sale includes 2 snow machines (a Bravo longtrack and a Skidoo Tundra long track) and a freight sled. The shed added to the side has drop down ramps on both ends making it a drive-through for the snow machines. Also includes a 14’ flatbottom boat modified to accept a 25 hp Mercury 2-stoke jet motor. This boat will get you up and down the river under any water conditions and is light enough you can drag it back to cabin when done. Also includes honda generator, chainsaw, brush cutter, weed whacker, pressure washer, various tools. There is also everything needed to preheat small planes if you fly out on skis (multiple options from propane, electric, and catalytic heaters). There is a drag I used to maintain a ski strip and ski trails.
The property is well above the high-water line and has never come close to being flooded even under the worst ice jams. It is protected from erosion by a natural rock wall along the river. The lower end of the property is sitting on a rock bench with about 4’ of soil and the property slopes uphill from there. Its good dry ground with no evidence of permafrost.
The Talachulitna River is a clearwater river that supports all 5 species of salmon. Just search for Talachulitna fishing and you can read all about it. Kings can be caught on a fly rod in front of the cabin. The rainbow fishing is a fly casters dream, where you can walk and wade the riffle pool system in the canyon above the cabin in low water and never run out of fish. Or take the boat and run up then spend the day drifting back down. It’s a 15 min run to the mouth, where silvers tend to pool up in large numbers and can be caught on flyrods as well. The occasional grayling and dolly varden will also take your fly. Nordic skiing is good in winter and you have the area all to yourself. There is very little private land along the Talachulitna and it rarely comes up for sale. This is one of the best properties on the river.
