Looking for Licensed State of Alaska Journeyman Plumbers AND Apprentices to join our established and growing team!
We are hiring for both plumbing superintendents and lead plumbing journeymen.
Workman Mechanical is partnered with a Nationally Accredited plumbing apprenticeship program and apprenticeship sponsor. Laborers are welcome to apply and be enrolled into our plumbing apprenticeship program after a trial period of workmanship.
Workman Mechanical LLC is an established and growing full service plumbing and heating company doing work in the residential and commercial markets throughout Alaska, this includes new construction, renovations, repairs, and replacements. Constructing mechanical systems for a variety of private, public, and rural projects. The majority of work performed is out of town, so this provides an excellent opportunity to see some beautiful parts of Alaska! Willingness to travel is a must. Our team has a combined 45 years of extensive experience and expertise in the mechanical industry.
Duties:
• Perform detailed take-offs
• Do Daily reports
• Material ordering
• Ability to travel to remote locations
• Estimating for change orders
• Testing and start up of systems & test reports
• Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including pipes, fixtures, and appliances.
• Read and interpret blueprints to determine the layout of plumbing systems.
• Perform pipe threading and ensure proper connections for water supply and drainage systems.
• Utilize hand tools effectively for various plumbing tasks, ensuring precision in all installations.
• Conduct routine maintenance on plumbing systems to prevent issues and prolong lifespan.
• Collaborate with other tradespeople, including HVAC technicians and general contractors, during remodeling projects.
• Adhere to safety protocols while performing heavy lifting and working in confined spaces.
• Troubleshoot plumbing issues and provide effective solutions in a timely manner.
Skills:
• Skilled in managing construction schedules
• Skilled in handling logistics for remote projects
• Skilled in working on fuel, natural gas, hydronic heating systems and glycol systems.
• Ability to read technical data, and submittals
• Knowledge of local and state codes, Uniform Plumbing Code.
• Manage crews
• Sizing of equipment, calculating heat loads
• Doing assessments, troubleshooting & diagnostics for emergency repairs and upgrade projects
• Coordinate with Lower tier subcontractors such as insulators, controls, TAB services
• Basic computer skills, including email, scanning programs, construction software, PDF's, and Microsoft applications such as Excel & Word
• Proficiency in using hand tools relevant to plumbing tasks.
• Strong understanding of basic math for measurements and calculations related to installations.
• Experience with pipe threading techniques for various types of piping materials.
• Ability to read blueprints accurately to guide installation processes.
• Knowledge of HVAC systems is a plus for integrated projects.
• Capability to perform heavy lifting as required by job duties.
• Familiarity with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper
• Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience in maintenance person services or remodeling projects is beneficial for diverse job responsibilities.
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail in all aspects of plumbing work.
